Sub-County authorities in Apac district demand bribe from VHTs in order to receive bicycles

The Apac Anti Corruption Coalition (TAACC) has foiled the illegal collection of money from the Village Health Teams (VHTs) by the Sub County authorities of Apac district. The VHTs who are trained volunteers by the government of Uganda to provide basic health services in their respective communities were meant to receive 717 bicycles for free to enable them reach out to the community. The Executive Director of TAACC Mr. Tom Opwonya Superman issued a strong warning to the Sub-Counties over the illegal practice through the local FM radio stations to stop the illegal practice. Mr.Opwonya called on the District Health Office and Apac district secretary for works to stop the Sub County authorities from the corrupt practice. The local media houses took up the matter and sent a strong message to the public, which attracted a big discussion on radio Divine FM based in Apac and other radio stations.
